The Selva Maya Carbon Offset Project 

Scientific evidence indicates that the risks of global warming are so dire that aggressive and immediate action is needed to reduce carbon emissions globally. Rainforest2Reef is at the forefront of a global movement to offset carbon emissions through avoided deforestation. Our work focuses on the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, which is part of the 6 million-acre Selva Maya Rainforest. Since our founding, we have developed a unique and effective approach to land protection- we sign permanent and binding conservation agreements with local communities, or ejidos, which ensure that the ejidos refrain from logging and other destructive activities.

In just seven years, Rainforest2Reef has signed agreements to permanently protect more than 300,000 acres of previously threatened rainforest. By preventing logging and burning of these forests, Rainforest2Reef has prevented millions of tons of carbon stored in these trees, from entering the atmosphere.

We have contracted Terra Global Capital, LLC to assist us with the work required to generate carbon credits from our avoided deforestation project in the Selva Maya Rainforest, Mexico, and to register those credits under the internationally accepted standards of the Voluntary Carbon Standard and the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Alliance.
